Question of the Day(s): Why on earth is it so hard to do good in the world?! Why does one need dozens of qualifications & ages of years-experience to help some people who need help?!

Because it helps those who fund HR initiatives rest assured their money is in good hands and their cause unaffected; it also helps international bodies be accountable for screw-ups of the - gasp! - genocide inaction type. Last, but not least, a degree and lots of experience show that you are really committed and won't back out just because it's hard right when people need you the most. (My two cents to what could ultimately be just a rhetorical question. Hang in there - A.)

it was rhetorical... nonetheless, resting assured - i think - is not a matter of papers that an applicant may put at your disposal, but a matter of the character & personality of the individual concerned. and that's why i approve of interviews. yet in the end, an extra degree would only bear to show commitment to libraries and academia and not to the "real thing". or perhaps i simply find bureaucracy and bureaucratic proofs unappealing :)
