A'dam Day 181
Week 4 - Block 3

today: the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations. Comparing ICJ's LaGrand & Avena with US Supreme Court's Sanchez-Llamas on grounds of international law. What I really liked about this assignment is that here I could actually find the oral argument for the Supreme Court discussions.

I suppose I'm somewhat into it, in particular today with this VCCR Art 36.1. application & the climate change convention for my environmental law class.

also today: finishing Den Hague application or giving it up; EP simulation email; planning the documents for the week-end.

If agitation's on the menu, then I'll just get more caffeinated!!

A'dam Day 179

almost half a year since I'm here (the artificially-established 180th day is tomorrow). Yeah, I start identifying this container with "home", or I definitely did so yesterday, during my 2h walk by the triply-broken bike, from Weesperstraat here.

So deze week I'm finally over & done with the 1st semester and can consider my step into the 2nd one as a definit(iv)e one. Good. And then, what? And, then what? Still work in progress...

A'dam Day 173

My readings these days: "The main difference between the consequences of breach of a treaty determined, on the one hand, by the law of treaties and, on the other hand, by the law on state responsibility, is that application of the law of treaties affects the source of the obligation. (...) The law of responsibility however, is not concerned with the source of the obligation, but rather attaches consequences to a breach that seek to ensure that the obligations are given effect."

Now take the case of complicity in genocide... and write a 3000 words paper till tomorrow morning at 9.00! Yeah, I'm feeling deadline-ish alright!

A'dam Day 168
block 3, week 2

Started my "spring cleaning", wondering how am I ever gonna be able to get all these readers & books home?!
Looks like I'll have to drop out this turn of Dutch and just wait for April...

Just finished reading J. M. Coetzee's non-fictional "Youth: Scenes from Provincial Life II" - not the Nobel Prize-winning 2oo3's writing, yet revealing nonetheless; unimpressive as to the initiation, yet quite telling for the manner in which the story unwhirls.

As for my Saturday: one of the best days this year! :) Maastricht is really beautiful, got impressed with the atmosphere, people & tones of history.

This semester's "doomsdays" are bound to be Mondays - with lectures from 5.00 to 9.00 p.m. Yet interesting and with a relevant capacity to get me involved.

5 days till next academic deadline - State Responsibility assignment due Monday, by 9.oo a.m.
1 week till next non-academic deadline

Looking forward to: getting Sasha's bike! :)

Happy Union Day! [15 years anniversary]

7 February 1992
The Treaty on European Union is signed in Maastricht. It is a major EU milestone, setting clear rules for the future single currency as well as for foreign and security policy and closer cooperation in justice and home affairs. Under the treaty, the name ‘European Union’ officially replaces ‘European Community’. - taken from here

A'dam Day 161 -- alternative count: day 27

back in town means back to the insanity, overlapping activites & chaotic people, but hey, this is what it's supposed to be all about, right? otherwise, how to bring any sense to it?!

2nd semester, 5 new courses - still confused about what I'm doing when and where; had a course today & the MTEC sympo meeting (never-ending); have an assignment for tomorrow (...) & the first LIP with the VRK

RO was really good & obviously too brief for me - I already miss everyone & every place... but there's no time for this, as it seems, cause the world is moving and so must I (tsk tsk that's crap!)

on my mind, timetables, school, VRK, symposium, laundry, de Key, my room, people here, den Haag academy, internships, applications, Lisboa, readers, the current mess around & within myself... how did that "pull your act together" thing go?! SMILE
